When rendering an existing space, Thorpe visits the job site when possible and discusses different angles with the Client. He then takes a series of digital pictures for research purposes and creates a simple sketch of the building.
When working from plans, Thorpe requires a set of the plans, preferably in 1/8th inch to the foot. From these he drafts a sketch of the structure.

When working from plans, Thorpe requires a set of the plans, preferably in 1/8th inch to the foot. From these he drafts a sketch of the structure. J David Thorpe Illustration - The sketch is delivered to the Client to be reviewed via email or fax. The major concerns at this point are the perspective, the angle chosen, and the proportions. J David Thorpe Illustration - Having discussed the sketch with the Client, Thorpe begins the finished ink drawing on a semi-transparent Mylar surface. This is easily scanned, copied, or framed. J David Thorpe Illustration - When a colored rendering is requested, Thorpe reproduces the ink drawing on watercolor paper and mounts this on a rigid board. When the finished product must be flexible, the painting is mounted on flexible plastic. The piece is then painted.

J David Thorpe Illustration - The rendering is delivered by hand to the Client if they are in greater Colorado Springs area. When this is not possible, the piece is mailed in a variety of fashions depending on its size. Any subsequent framing is at the Client's initiative and expense.
